temptation is red

yoga starts at the navel point

The ancient Shastras cite "all yoga starts at the navel point."

Once, a young student asked his teacher how far he must travel to find enlightenment and the true path of the Self. The teacher spread his fingers wide and said, "You must travel the distance from the thumb to the tip of the little finger. If you place the spread hand on your stomach with the little finger at the Navel Point, then the thumb stretches to the heart center. This is the mystical path consciousness must ascend."

The Navel Point is not the navel, or belly button, though it is related. The center can be located a few inches down from the belly button and in front of, the lower
spine. I've been told, it lands 3 fingers down from your belly button. It is known as the center of physical well-being.

Thousands of channels carrying the life force of the body converge through this point, with different currents, ratios, and intensities of flow. Many imbalances can be corrected just by strengthening the navel point center.

Second chakra (Sacral) - located about 2-3 inches below the navel. Tone seven times using a higher pitched but still deep "OOO", as in "you". (Orange).
Third chakra (Solar Plexus) - located above the navel. Tone seven times using a higher pitched "OH", as in "go". (Yellow)

navel therapy, they say

here is what i found on the site www.vediccare.com

Navel is the centre of life forces. Even at the time of death when heart beats stop these forces remain in Navel for few minutes and if Navel is activated properly man can be survived again. By proper maintaining and regulating energy at Navel, we can remain in state of health and harmony.

Navel acts like a storage battery. From here life forces travel to mind through heart via solar plexus. From mind these vital forces are distributed in all parts of body through central nervous system. Since life is motion and stagnation is death. These life forces are always revolving, condensing and can go anywhere in the body as per our wish and help us to live. Thus Navel control and regulate all our physical, mental and spiritual activities. If it is not balanced and regulated properly it can get out of control and damage the body causing illness. There are certain way and technique to examination and balancing of Navel. Navel plays most important role in development of the body from the very beginning of life even at the stage of embryo. Body is nourished from Navel and get rid of its waste through this in womb. It also transform, stores and receive external energy.

The Navel centre balance all forces and is the centre of physical gravity while sitting, standing, walking, running or in any other posture. It can be considered as centre of life and plays most important part in the harmony of body, mind and soul. Since body is a continuous process of energy becoming matter and matter dissolving into energy again. In religious belief it is known as spiritual soul and material body. Therefore, it is necessary to know, how to maintain and care for the spiritual or invisible energies which help to weave off or dissolve the needed tissues and cause the flow or stagnation in body. Navel control and regulate all our physical, mental and spiritual activities. If it is not balance and related properly it can get out of control and damage the body causing illness.

Thus by Navel balancing most of the diseases can be cured and good harmony between body, mind and spirit is established and therefore Navel forces can be considered as “Base of Life”.

the navel stone

"The Navel Stone" was one of two photographs to be awarded a 'Highly Commended' at the Wirral Spring Art and Photography Exhibition.

contemplating the navel continues..

www.mynavel.co.uk

this is another site i found that devoted itself to : "The Joy of Belly Buttons and their Fluffy Accumulations"

what are the fluffy accumulations? i searched, they are what is commonly called bellybutton fluffs. what are they?

"Each morning when we wake up, and every evening, when we retire, it has been noted that we often accumulate small amounts of lint, or 'fluff', in our navels. Commonly referred to as 'belly-button fluff', the exact nature and cause of its appearance has been a mystery for generations. Thankfully, recent experiments in Australia may have found the answer at last.
Quite simply, it is collected fibres from your clothing. There's probably a little dead skin in there too, but the majority of it is small fibres from your clothes. Contrary to popular belief, evidence suggests that belly-button fluff comes up from underwear rather than down from your t-shirt or top.
We all have body hair to some degree. Women tend to have fine, almost invisible body hair, while men's hair is coarser and more visible. The hair drags fibre residue up from the 'pants' area until it congregates in the navel."

if you think that you have a fabulous belly button, here is the chance for the world to appreciate it. you can submit a photograph of your belly button here (secrecy assured) and it can get selected as the belly button of the week.
here are a few samples:

again, about the navel

the interval has been too long, even for such a lazy man as me.
in fact i seem to have had forgotten all about the blog. and when i decided to start posting again, i casually made a search. it seems there are many more navel gazers. and i thought i shall share a few here.
there is this collection of poems titled the navel gaze, by ariel gordon.
about the collection:
The navel gaze is a mash-up of pregnancy-and-mothering poems and urban/nature poems that functions as an anti-sentiment manifesto from Winnipeg-based writer and editor Ariel Gordon. Month by month, stanza by stanza, Gordon attempts to adequately represent the wonder and devilment of being-with-child. The navel gaze is a love poem written simultaneously to a father and child, to a lover and the glimmer in his eye, and to a city that is gritty, faded, but still greener-than-most.
